Jan Lundgren-Ulf Wakenius Quartet: Oscar and Duke

A combination of tradition and curiosity is what we can expect here. There will be music by Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington when Jan Lundgren joins forces with three other very distinguished musicians. Oscar Peterson was Jan Lundgren’s first discovery and inspiration in jazz.

Jan Lundgren plays with an unrivalled poetic sensitivity that goes straight to the heart of the listener. He carries on the legacy of Sweden’s great pianist, Jan Johansson, like no other.

One of the world’s best and most sought-after jazz-guitarists, Ulf Wakenius was a member of Oscar Peterson’s last quartet for ten years, as well as the first choice for NHØP, Svend Asmussen, Putte Wickman and many others. Ulf Wakenius always captivates the audience, regardless of whether he plays fast uptempo be-bop or throws himself into a ballad.

Together with the Swedish bassplayer Hans Backenroth, who for more than 25 years has been first-call for countless projects, tours and recordings worldwide, and the Danish drummer Kristian Leth, who is also among the elite of Scandinavian jazz musicians, this quartet throws itself into a repertoire celebrating two icons in jazz; Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington.
