PAOLO FRESU / RICHARD GALLIANO / JAN LUNDGREN – MARE NOSTRUM III: THE SOUND OF EUROPE
DE SINGEL International Arts Centre
Desguinlei 25, Antwerp
All good things come in threes. Twelve years ago, the Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, the French accordionist Richard Galliano and the Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren formed the trio Mare Nostrum. Three musicians with different musical backgrounds that nonetheless found a connection. Each explored the traditions of their own country and explored the boundaries of jazz. All three grew up close to art. The sea also plays a key role as a source of inspiration and a starting point for all their travels and encounters, both real and imaginary. All three have a strong sense of lyricism, which on their third album connects them more than ever. Here their own compositions come together with their favourite numbers from the far north of Europe to the deepest south. A perfect symbiosis of jazz, classical and folk traditions.
